Workplaces often have lots of reminders and warnings.

Remember to clock out at the end of your shift. Please clean up after yourself. Danger: Electrical hazard. Hard hats required.

And you’re pretty good at remembering to do these things. Maybe you always wear your safety vest. You follow the recommendations from the health and safety committee. After all, your coworkers and supervisors are counting on you. You don’t want to put yourself or your job on the line.

But what about outside of work hours? Do you remember to put your phone on silent when driving? Do you remember to supervise your kids at the lake? Do you follow safe ladder practices at home?

Taking steps to prevent injuries outside of work is just as important as when you’re at work. Yellow lines (and signs) exist in a lot of places to remind us. But when there are no yellow lines, preventing injuries are up to you—wherever you may be. That includes at work, at home, at play, and on the journeys in between.

Let’s remember to take a moment to pause, and think about what you can do to prevent serious injuries. And please don’t leave your lunch in the fridge over the weekend.
