Yellow lines are in a lot of places to protect our kids. Showing them where to stand on SkyTrain platforms, reminding them where to ride when on their bike—you get the picture.
But in places where there are no yellow lines—like at home—protecting your children from a serious injury, such as poisoning, is up to you. More than half of all poisonings in British Columbia involve young children, with those between the ages of one and three years at the highest risk.1
That’s why we’re partnering with London Drugs to spread the message that medication poisonings are entirely preventable. Look for our signage in stores around BC.
Here are some ways you can help keep poisonings preventable:
- Store all medications out of children’s reach.
- Take medications out of sight of children.
- Always relock the cap on a medicine bottle.
- Never call medicine “candy.”
- Remind family members and guests to keep coats and bags with medicine out of reach of children.
- Save the BC Drug and Poison Information Centre number (604-682-5050 or 1-800-567-8911) in your phone, or post it in a visible place in your house.
Keeping pills out of reach of children is up to you. Let’s keep it preventable.
